The leaves are a very important part of the plant.

The plant breathes through its leaves i.e. the leaves take in oxygen and give out carbon dioxide.

Leaves give out or transpire water.

When sunlight is present the leaves take in carbon dioxide and convert it into sugars and starches.

This process is called photosynthesis.
