So, who was Lazzaro Spallanzani?

Lazzaro Spallanzani was born at Scandiano, Modena, Italy on January 10th 1729. He received the early part of his education at the Jesuit College in Reggio. He attended the University of Bologna, where he studied law. He abandoned law for logic and metaphysics and became a professor at the University of Reggio. In 1760, he moved to a chair at the University of Modena, where he devoted his time to natural science. In 1768, he accepted the chair of natural history in the University of Pavia.
