GRASSHOPPERS

The grasshopper is another insect that goes through an incomplete metamophosis.

It starts life as an egg.

These are laid in the ground by the female after they have been fertilised by the male.

The egg hatches into a young grasshopper.

The young grasshopper looks just the same as the adult but it has no wings.

The young grasshopper is called a nymph.

As the nymph grows it gets too big for its skin.

The skin splits and the nymph comes out in a new, bigger skin.

The nymph does this five times.

Each time the nymph grows a little bit bigger.

At the final change it develops wings.

It is now an adult grasshopper.
