 WHAT ARE INSECTS?

 

 

 

 

There are insects without wings.

 

 

There are insects with wings.

 

 

 

Some insects are useful.

 

 

 

Some insects can cause disease.

 

 

Some insects eat plants.

 

 

Some insects are eaten by animals.

 

 

Some insects eat other insects.

Ladybirds eat aphids and are therefore very valuable in a garden.

 

 

Some insects live on the bodies of other insects.

These are called parasitic insects.

 

 

Some insects have what is called a symbiotic relationship with other insects. There are some ant colonies that provide food for certain beetles that live with them.

In return the ants eat certain fluids produced by the beetles.

This is an example of a symbiotic relationship.

 

 

There are insects that come out during the day.

 

There are insects that come out at night.

 

Go outside and see how many types of insects you can see.
