SEA MAMMALS

Whales and dolphins are mammals that live in the sea.

Like all mammals they breathe through lungs.

HOW CAN THEY USE THEIR LUNGS IN WATER?

Dolphins and whales breathe through a nostril which is at the top of their head. Some species of whales have a pair of nostrils.

Whales and dolphins come to the surface of the sea to breathe air in through the nostril.

While they are at the surface they breathe out the air stored in their lungs.

This air contains carbon dioxide.
