are about 15 000 species of ants known in the world.
Some
of these are:

Pharoah ants - often found in kitchens. Some kitchen ants are
so small they can hide under a grain of sugar.

Ponerine ants - live in Brazil and are about 3 cms long.
*
Red harvester ants - collect and store seeds and grain.
*
Honeypot ants - often found in the southwestern USA.
*
Carpenter ants - live in the north USA.
